Vicar Matthew Schettler comes to Baltimore from Orchard
Park, New York, just south of Buffalo, where he grew up. After graduating
Orchard Park High School, he attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then Concordia College in Bronxville, New York,
where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014. While at Bronxville, he served as a
fieldworker at Trinity Lutheran Church in Scarsdale, and then at Our Savior
Lutheran Church in the Bronx, where he developed a passion for city ministry.
Upon his graduation from
college, Matthew enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
His fieldwork was served at Clear Lake
Lutheran Church in Fremont, Indiana. After
his first year at CTS, he came down to Baltimore to serve a summer vicarage at
Martini Lutheran Church, where he served in varying capacities at five local Lutheran
congregations – Martini, Redeemer, St. Thomas, Christ, and Nazareth.
Alongside his duties at
Immanuel, Matthew is also serving at Lutheran Mission Society
on Wednesdays at the Fells Point Compassion Center,
and on Saturdays at Immanuel’s own Compassion Center.
Vicar Matthew is excited
to serve his vicarage year at Immanuel, and looking forward to the ministry
opportunities in the Charm City.
